Assessment Administrative Assistant

Role

The MDB administers a reformed mercury contamination compensatory process, available to all eligible Wabaseemoong Independent Nations and Grassy Narrows First Nation members.

The ANA Assessment Administrative Assistant provides full admin support to the ANA Assessment Supervisor. Assessment clinics are regularly held in Kenora, Grassy Narrows and Wabaseemoong locations, and at other locations from time to time where members live, where medical professionals assess approved claimants for symptoms of mercury poisoning. Members are eligible for monthly compensation benefits processed from Canada Life Insurance in accordance with an established scoring system.

Key Deliverables

  • Maintain contact with claimants throughout the application and assessment process
  • Updates to community specific social media platforms
  • Assist Clinic Supervisor in scheduling assessment appointments for claimants
  • Arrange for travel, accommodations and expense claims as required for claimant attendance at assessment appointments
  • Lead on formatting and processing a variety of letters to Claimants as required throughout the process
  • Maintain assessment clinic hospitality supplies as required
  • Assist in special projects as requested
  • Attendance during all ANA assessments is required, with ability to support WIN assessments as required, and/or attend evening and weekend assessments as scheduled
  • Provide assistance as requested with all areas of Assessment preparation
  • Answering inquiries from claimants

Qualifications

  • A commitment to carrying the vision of the community-based MDB experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong ethics at all times
  • Combination of education & experience that makes for a good fit for the position
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong organization and time-management skills, attention to detail is key
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with the Team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office program, such as 365 suite of programs
  • A passion for working with indigenous communities and demonstrable knowledge of cultural safety; willingness to complete cultural sensitivity training as required
  • Knowledge specific to the MDB, Grassy Narrows and its Mercury Justice program is a distinct asset
  • Organizational, time management and problem solving skills
  • Oral communication skills including being comfortable speaking at meetings, in person and by telephone

Terms

This is a 2-year, full-time contract position under an independent contractor arrangement with very competitive remuneration

This position will be based in Grassy Narrows, in a home based or other suitable and private office setting
