Background

The Mercury Disability Board is a non for profit, legislated community-based organization. The purpose of the MDB is to implement the terms of the settlement arising out of the contamination by mercury and other pollutants of the English and Wabigoon River systems per the Memorandum of Agreement signed in November 1985, and the Mercury Contamination Settlement Act assented to in July 1986. The Board’s mandate is to administer and oversee the assessment and compensation process.

Role

As a SharePoint Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing our SharePoint environment to facilitate seamless collaboration, document management, and information sharing across the organization. You will be responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining SharePoint solutions, as well as providing user support and training. In summary, a successful candidate must be technically adept, analytically sharp, and possess strong interpersonal skills to navigate the multifaceted challenges of data management in today’s data-driven world.

Key Deliverables

  • Designs, develops, and customizes SharePoint sites, libraries, lists, and workflows to meet business needs.
  • Implements and maintains SharePoint security policies, permissions, and access controls.
  • Creates and configures web parts, forms, and templates to enhance user experience.
  • Establishes and maintains document management best practices within SharePoint.
  • Ensures proper version control, metadata tagging, and content organization.
  • Monitors and manage document retention policies and archiving processes. 
  • Provides technical support and training to end-users on SharePoint functionalities.
  • Collaborates with teams across the organization to identify SharePoint requirements and opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves SharePoint-related issues promptly. 
  • Enforces SharePoint governance policies and ensure compliance with industry regulations and internal guidelines.
  • Regularly audits SharePoint sites and content to maintain data integrity and security. 
  • Integrates SharePoint with other business applications and systems as needed.
  • Plans and executes SharePoint migration projects, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
  • Specific to MDB; proficient support of a data team in order to provide accurate and timely reports at any point in time.

Qualifications

Essential skills encompass a blend of technical and soft skills. Technical skills include proficiency in database design, data modeling, and data warehousing, as well as familiarity with SQL, NoSQL, and various database technologies. Data integration tools and techniques are also crucial for managing data flow across systems.

On the soft skills side, the candidate should have strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to adapt quickly to new technologies and processes. Communication skills are vital for conveying complex information clearly and effectively, while research and problem-solving skills are necessary for ensuring data accuracy and security.

Furthermore, data governance and compliance knowledge is essential to ensure that data handling within an organization adheres to privacy laws and regulatory requirements. This ensures responsible, ethical, and legal management of data, maintaining trust and integrity in data operations.

Remuneration

The Contractor will receive remuneration as an independent contractor at a negotiated fee, to a maximum of 35 hours per week as agreed upon by the successful candidate and Chair to the MDB. The contract term will be for a 2-year period. Contract terms are negotiable and the work location is hybrid; i.e. Kenora and/or home based office.
